What Is The Dragonfly Stroller

Couple strolling outside with the Bugaboo Dragonfly Stroller

The Dragonfly stroller by Bugaboo is positioned in between the ultra-compact Butterfly stroller and the oh-so-clever Fox. Created for the urban market, this stroller is easy to fold and relatively lightweight, while still having large sturdy wheels that can take on the city streets. On top of that, it’s eco-friendly which we definitely appreciate, with each part of the stroller manufactured in a way to minimize impact on the planet.

Features Of The Dragonfly Stroller

A Bugaboo Dragonfly stroller

If the Dragonfly looks familiar, that’s because it’s got some of the genetic material of its sibs, the Butterfly and Fox. But don’t let this fool you. The Dragonfly holds its own, unique in the market. Here are some of the features of the new Dragonfly stroller

  • Storage Galore

Flexible storage system (22 pound capacity), which includes a large underseat basket and a moveable rear pocket that makes it easy to reach your essentials, even with the stroller folded.

  • Foldable Bassinet

The stroller can still fold with the bassinet on, which is something that many strollers cannot claim. And once it folds, it will stand, to boot! Very compact and convenient! Of course, it also folds very neatly with the seat!

One thing to know about the bassinet: you either purchase the stroller with a bassinet or don’t, but whatever you decide, it’s a “forever hold your peace” situation.

The bassinet will not be separately available, so if you buy the stroller for your 1 year old now but need it for an infant later, you’re out of luck if you didn’t buy it with the bassinet in the first place. We suggest you always buy it with the bassinet.

  • Car Seat Compatible

The Bugaboo Dragonfly stroller is compatible with the Turtle Air by Nuna x Bugaboo. To use them together, you'll need the car seat adapter which can be purchased separately.

  • Built For Comfort

Advanced suspension and high-performance wheels mean effortless strolls on various terrains.

  • Eco Friendly

It is easy to be green after all! At least for the Bugaboo Dragonfly stroller. With the Dragonfly, Bugaboo has reduced CO2 impact by up to 21%. The fabrics are also finished with an eco-friendly water repellent coating.

Our First Impressions Of The Dragonfly Stroller

Couple looking at baby in Bugaboo Dragonfly stroller with bassinet

The Look

The Dragonfly is a different shape than other Bugaboos - it’s got a distinct canopy and chassis shape, a little more square than other strollers by this manufacturer. We love the new color - the light blue is quite pretty, and we also love the storage below.

The Fold

The fold is a bit tricky at first. It requires a few steps, using two buttons on the handlebar. Our first tries were a bit clumsy but after we did it a few times, we started getting the knack. (We promise to teach you our moves!) We were very impressed how compact the fold is especially with the bassinet. And we love the stand and the accessible storage pocket!

The Ride

The wheels are not as robust as the Fox but the suspension feels good and the ride seems comfy. This makes sense because a stroller's weight is mostly in the wheels, so to be lighter the wheels must be a teeny bit smaller! For those of you for whom weight matters (you'll be carrying it for instance), it's a good trade-off!

The Storage

Loving the underseat storage. The two compartments seem very convenient, especially the easy to access zippered pouch closer to the parent.

The Accessories

Looks like lots of accessories work with this stroller including a host of newborn, toddler, parent and seasonal essentials. The Dragonfly-specific accessories are the Bugaboo Turtle Air by Nuna using NEW Dragonfly adapters; Bugaboo Bassinet stand using the NEW stand adapters, Dragonfly rain cover, Bugaboo Dragonfly breezy sun canopy. We're excited that it can be used with the bassinet stand, as this will be nice for the nursery (you don't need another piece of furniture) and of course it's super convenient when you're on-the-go!

Something To Know

I said it before but I’m going to say it again: if you’re buying a Dragonfly, you need to make the decision whether you want a bassinet or not. The bassinet will NOT be purchasable separately, so you got one chance. If you’re getting this stroller and think you might have another child, it might be a good idea to get it!

The Verdict

All in all, we like the new Bugaboo Dragonfly. It’s a nice stroller that has some pretty cool features: my faves: the compact fold, the underseat basket and the pretty sky blue color. If you’re looking for a one-and-done this might be your choice, as it’s light, compact and pretty robust for a lighter weight stroller.

As we mentioned, hitting its mark between compact and primary stroller, the Dragonfly is a nice combo that will appeal to the one-and-done crowd. Well done Bugaboo on this latest option for city families looking to get out and about this summer. Hello World!
