Weekend Pick: Jim Henson's Creature Shop (Queens, NY)
Through May 30th, Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, a working New York workshop in Long Island City, where his colorful cadre of lovable Muppets came to life, is open for public tours. This is a must-see for any kid 8+ and adult alike.
The 80-minute tour includes a walk through of the Creature Shop, special photo opps with beloved characters, a puppetry demonstration with one of the puppeteers and a meet and greet with puppet builders.
Jim Henson’s Creature Shop creates the animatronic creatures, digital puppetry, and soft puppets to a range of films, tv shows, and live events, including Sesame Street (of course), Muppets, Emmy-winning Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock (Apple TV), The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (Netflix), and upcoming all-puppet episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
