by UPPAbaby — Babesta's Pick for an Effortless, All-in-One City Stroller

The Kona by UPPAbaby is the newest addition to their stroller lineup, built to sit right between the full-size Cruz and the ultra-compact Minu. At under 22 lbs with a one-hand fold that works no matter which way your child is facing, it's designed for parents who want the ease of a lightweight stroller without giving up a full-size ride: a reversible seat that's ready from birth, four recline positions, and a 30 lb capacity basket.

For city families, that middle ground is the whole point. The Kona is nimble enough for subway turnstiles, narrow elevator lobbies, and crowded sidewalks, but it doesn't ask you to sacrifice storage, recline range, or that true full-size push feel to get there. It's the stroller we point to most often when a parent tells us the Cruz felt like too much stroller and the Minu felt like too little.

Best For/Not For

Best For

Parents who want one stroller to carry them from newborn through toddler years without switching pieces

City dwellers who need something nimble enough for subway turnstiles and tight sidewalks, but still want a full-size basket and true multi-position recline

Families who found the Cruz too much stroller for their space, but wanted more ride and storage than the Minu offers

Parents managing car seat travel — direct-attach compatibility with UPPAbaby's own infant seats, plus adapters for other major brands.

Parents who want a stroller that's GREENGUARD Gold certified.

Not Ideal for

Families who want the absolute lightest, smallest fold for tight walkups or frequent travel — the Minu or the Cybex Libelle will serve better there

Parents who want a bassinet included at purchase — Kona's newborn use is seat-based, and the Bassinet V3 is sold separately for full flat-recline sleep.

Parents who want a full size stroller with larger wheels meant for off-roading, or single to double capability.

Is It Suitable for My Baby's Age?

Newborn (0–6 months)

The reversible seat is ready from birth in parent-facing mode, with a one-hand recline offering four positions for a comfortable newborn ride. For full flat-recline sleep, we recommend pairing the Kona with the Bassinet V3 (sold separately) or a compatible UPPAbaby infant car seat, both of which attach directly without an adapter.

Infant (6–12 months)

Once your baby can sit supported, the seat converts easily between parent-facing and forward-facing, and the extended seat back keeps things comfortable as they grow into it.

Toddler (1–4 years)

With a 50 lb weight capacity and an adjustable, three-position footrest, the Kona comfortably carries most kids well into toddlerhood.

Is It Good for NYC / City Use?

At under 22 lbs and with a compact folded footprint of 13.4”L x 21”W x 25.8”H, the Kona clears subway turnstiles and fits in tight elevator lobbies without much fuss, and the one-hand fold means you're not wrestling with it on a crowded platform while holding a baby. The suspension and never-flat tires smooth out the realities of city pavement, cobblestones, and curb cuts, and the extra-large 30 lb basket means you can actually run errands instead of just carrying the diaper bag.

Within UPPAbaby's own lineup, it sits deliberately in the middle: the Cruz V3 offers a bit more seat and storage but weighs more and folds bigger, while the Minu V3 is lighter and more compact still but comes with a smaller basket and less recline range. If you're comparing across brands, the Cybex Libelle remains the lightest stroller we carry, but it trades some of the Kona's basket capacity and full-size ride feel to get there. The Kona is the pick for parents who don't want to choose between nimble and full-featured.

Why Babesta Carries It

We carry the Kona because it solves a real problem we hear from NYC parents constantly: the stroller that's light enough to handle alone but still feels like a full-size ride once you're in it. UPPAbaby built this to slot between the Cruz and the Minu, and in practice that middle spot is where most city families actually want to live. It doesn't force a trade-off between a good basket, a proper recline, and a manageable fold.

The details matter too. The magnetic buckle makes in-and-out transitions faster when you're juggling a toddler and a subway car, and the one-hand fold working with the seat attached, regardless of which way your child faces, is the kind of feature you don't appreciate until you're standing on a crowded platform without a free hand. It's a genuinely versatile everyday stroller for city living.

Can I try the Kona in person at Babesta?

Yes, you will be able to after its official launch on August 2nd, 2026. But to be sure it's there, it's a good idea to call and verify as what's on the floor is frequently changing.
